As if we needed another reminder that third party candidates are the real third rail of American politics, the results of the GOP debacle in NY’s 23rd Congressional District should serve as a stinging lesson in Street Smarts 101. You don’t split the vote by endorsing a third party candidate!

“Mistakes were made,” as the North Vietnamese general said after the war, when referring to the communist massacre of almost 3,000 civilians in Hue, South Vietnam during the 1968 Tet Offensive. The Republicans in the 23rd District nominated a RINO who was, of all things, in favor of the card check option that would kill the secret ballot in company elections on unionization. The GOP candidate in question had other left-wing positions that rankled many conservatives.

That said, the split in the Republican vote between the Conservative Party candidate and the turncoat RINO, who dropped out of the race and threw her support behind the Democrat, gave the left-wing party of big government and restricted individual freedom the win in the congressional election. The lesson could not be clearer. If you want the party that you oppose to gain election victories, you vote for a third party candidate. It happened with Ross Perot. Clinton won. It happened with Ralph Nadar. Bush won. It happened with Ron Paul. Obama won.

Vote for ELECTABLE pro-Second Amendment candidates from major parties that most closely adhere to your views. If possible, vote GOP. The party in power controls the political process. Voting third party throws your vote away. As if we needed another reminder!

Just in case anyone is getting giddy over the restoration of concealed carry rights in national parks, here is a little reminder from California about the continuing anti-gun agenda of the left wing of the Democrat Party. Assembly Bill 962 limits the legal transfer of handgun ammunition between private parties in the People’s Republic to 50 rounds per month.

The bill also requires the fingerprinting of a customer prior to an ammunition purchase. Of course, you can get a license to become a “handgun ammunition vendor.” In the quaint words of the law, this bill “creates a new crime.”

Like the rest of California’s gun laws, this bill will do nothing to prevent crime. (See my posts under the Category: “Gun Law Failures.”) AB 962, if enacted, will make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to obtain ammunition for hunting, target shooting, and self-protection. This harassment, in my opinion, is designed to tighten the web of constricting laws around honest gun owners, with the final goal of eliminating private ownership of handguns in California.

“Understand!” (to borrow a frequent expression from “The Chosen One”) England is the model for American gun “controllers.” The British Olympic Pistol Team must go to Switzerland to practice, because they are not allowed by the Nanny State to discharge their stinking pistols on their native soil! (See my posts under the Category: “Foreign Gun Laws.”)

It is too late to “resist the beginning” of gun control in the United States, but we must crush every attempt to infringe our natural right to self-defense against crime, tyranny and genocide. We must incrementally roll back ill-conceived laws that give the advantage of being armed to thugs, rapists, spree killers, and hypcritical elitists who hide behind bodyguards.

It’s great to hear that at least one district in Idaho has allowed kids to have a positive experience with shooting and to learn some gun handling and safety rules. Again, I ask the question, “If sex education saves lives by preventing sexually transmitted diseases, why doesn’t every school in the country require classes in gun safety?”

I will be working from a new computer for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully there will be minimal disruption. There is a lot going on: the tragedy of the Oakland police officer killings, the trial of the woman who “exercised” her husband to death in a swimming pool, and the trial of the man who threw his children off a bridge. I’m betting that we won’t hear talk about banning swimming pools or bridges, but we probably will hear talk about more gun control, even though the police killings were perpetrated by a parole violator in the relatively “gun free” people’s paradise of California. (See my posts under the Category: “Gun Law Failures.”) Stay tuned.

You have seen the news stories about the church killing and the family murder rampage by the man in Alabama. This week, there was a spree killing in Germany. Those on the Left and others who believe that disarmed, helpless people are safer than armed people will no doubt again raise their voices and demand that we surrender our right to self-defense against crime, tyranny, and genocide. And remember, we are approaching the anniversary of Columbine. There is another NRA Convention coming up that makes an especially juicy target for a trumped up incident. Look out Arizona!

We can debate whether these clusters of murders are copycat killings caused by “immortality” conferred on killers by the Mainstream Media, or caused by the “easy availability” of firearms (scientific evidence to the contrary). Mass murders could be linked to government creation of “gun-free zones,” which are really “criminal- safe, free-fire zones.” There might be a conspiracy to manufacture these incidents in order to further an anti-individual rights agenda. My inclination is toward the first, third, and last of these explanations, but I could just be paranoid.

In any event, lovers of freedom and advocates for the right to armed self-defense against crime, tyranny, and genocide must brace ourselves for another onslaught against our right to own inanimate objects that can be used as tools for protection, recreation, or destruction. The other side sees them as “Demon Guns.”

David Kopel of the Independence Institute has made the case that media outlets should minimize publicity regarding the names of spree killers to dampen the enthusiasm of those who would emulate mass murderers in the hope of gaining lasting notoriety. Kopel also discusses the correlation between the rise of the electronic media and increases in criminal violence.

Open almost any newspaper or tune into any mainstream TV station to get the argument that the “easy availability” of guns is going to kill us all. (See my posts under the Category: “Research” for a bit of the evidence that guns don’t cause crime.)

I believe that Kirby Ferris has insight into the possibility that some shadowy anti-gunners are using Manchurian Candidate-like mind control to motivate shooters into perpetrating mass murders at strategic times. (Before you write us both off as crazy, read his articles here and here.)

I have done a considerable amount of research into this issue, myself, and have found a number of anomalies in many shooting incidents that have occurred at times that were much too convenient for the other side. Then again, I could just be paranoid.

Look for a moment at Columbine. It occurred days before the NRA Convention in Denver. The State Legislature was considering an improved concealed carry law at the time. The Columbine is the Colorado State Flower, so the incident stuck in the minds of many people. The mass murder occurred on Hitler’s birthday and one day after the anniversaries of the Battle of Lexington, the Waco conflagration, and the Oklahoma City Bombing. The shooting tainted an upcoming, annual, pro-individual rights rally at the State Capitol. One of the teens killed at the school was named Mauser. (For anyone unfamiliar with firearms, Mauser is also the name of a famous gun maker.)

How did the Columbine killers get all those bombs into the school without help? Given the extremely volatile nature of propane, why didn’t the two propane tank bombs go off? Who was “KiBBz,” (Kibitzer?) a code-named person in the killers’ writings? Too many questions without answers cloud this mass murder. There are other examples. It could be coincidence, but a gunman at the State Capitol came from Rifle, Colorado. How many shootings have occurred in places named “Springfield?” (Springfield is also the name of a gun maker.)

If something “accidental” happens to me, I hope people will be suspicious. How’s that for paranoia and ideas of reference? So far, I’m willing to admit that I could be wrong, unlike a lot of really emotional folks on the other side of the debate.

In any case, look for more shootings that “conveniently” occur at the worst possible times for gun owners. Look at the details surrounding mass murders and things that don’t fit in. “Question authority!” The folks on the other side often liked to say that. They don’t say it so much, any more.

Obama Administration Attorney General Eric Holder’s announcement on Wednesday of a renewal of the “Assault Weapons” Ban should come as no surprise to anyone remotely aware of the struggle to maintain the Second Amendment rights of American Citizens. The Democrat Platform had an anti-individual rights plank and Obama, himself, supported the draconian Washington, D.C. gun ban, even after the U.S. Supreme Court told the D.C. Council that their post Heller regulation continued to violate the Constitution. (See my posts under the Categories: “Elections,” and “Courts.”

First of all, an “Assault Weapon” is a select-fire military gun that can fire more than one bullet with one pull of the trigger. The guns that Clinton “banned” and Obama wants to ban are not “Assault Weapons,” they are semi-automatic or self-loading firearms that fire one round with one pull of the trigger.

To get some idea of what Obama’s ban might look like, we can review a summary of Democrat Representative McCarthy’s bill of last year, HR 1022. Her bill contained the following anti-individual rights provisions. (This list is not inclusive.)

2008 Semi-auto Ban Bill HR 1022

Bill is not clearly written

Allows Attorney General to ban any semiauto ever used by police or military

Presumes that gun used by military or police is not suitable for civilian “sporting purpose,” even if gun is used in sporting event-Orwellian language-really scary!

Bans any semi-auto with a magazine well

Bans by name: AR-15, Mini 14, Uzi, M-1 Carbine, Galil, Mac 10, AK, SKS, AR-10 and others

Bans transfers by persons of magazines of over ten rounds with semi-automatic firearms (Bans magazine transfers?)

Grandfathers guns currently owned, but registers all future transfers of semi-autos (Sets up confiscation)

Bans importation of magazines of over ten rounds

Bans semi-autos with pistol grips, threaded barrels, folding stocks, bayonet lugs, and barrel shrouds

Definition of “grip” may be used to include any semi-auto firearm in the ban

Ban includes semi-auto shotguns with magazine wells and “Street Sweepers”

Bans semi-auto .22s with magazine wells

Exempts .22s with tubular magazines of over ten rounds

Annual report by Attorney General to Congress on use of semi-autos in crime (Sets stage for further restriction)

Dealer or manufacturer must certify to Attorney General within 60 days that any high capacity magazine sold was made before the date of the ban

Remember that registration is a necessary precursor to confiscation. Semi-automatic firearms were confiscated in New York after the owners were “promised” that the registration lists would never be used to take away their guns.

“Conservative” pundit Charles Krauthammer said of the Clinton semi-auto ban, “The claim of the advocates that banning these 19 types of ‘assault weapons’ will reduce the crime rate is laughable… Passing a law like the assault weapons ban is a symbolic…move… Its only real justification is not crime, but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation. De-escalation begins with a change in mentality. And that change in mentality starts with the symbolic yielding of certain types of weapons.” (Charles Krauthammer, syndicated Columnist, The Washington Post, 1996.)

Please contact your gun owning friends and neighbors and anyone you know that loves freedom. Ask them to call, E-mail and write their elected federal representatives and senators in opposition to this deceptive scheme.

If you are a hunter, shotgunner, small bore target shooter, or a collector of antique firearms, don’t think that you are immune from the gun-grabbing tendencies of this administration. The Socialists pushing this dangerous agenda are using England as a model. (See my posts on England under the Category: “Foreign Gun Laws,” on this site.)

If you have visited this blog in the past you already know that the British Olympic Pistol Team is forced to train in Switzerland, because their guns are banned in their home country. That is the end game envisioned by the enemies of our individual right to armed self-defense against crime, tyranny, and genocide.

“Ask not for whom the bell tolls…” Get politically active or lose your birthright of freedom forever.

We don’t have all the information yet on the Christmas Eve massacre of nine people in Covina, California. The killer, Bruce Jeffery Pardo, was apparently desperate, because of a recent divorce settlement and previous job loss. The murderer killed himself after fleeing the mass shooting and arson at the Ortega residence, home of his former in-laws.

We do know that this tragedy happened in California, a Liberal bastion of gun control. The California semi-automatic weapons ban didn’t prevent this massacre. California laws against arson and murder didn’t stop the killing. There was apparently no armed adult with a concealed carry permit in the household to stop the slaughter. (California discourages armed self-defense.)

Mr. Pardo was apparently the “typical” case of the “normal” person who “snapped.” What happened?

Often in these cases there is a documented or undocumented history of mental illness, frequently paranoid schizophrenia. Was Pardo receiving psychiatric treatment? Was he on medication?

What in this man’s background, education, and psychological make up caused him to believe that mass murder was his best option? Money found on his body and an airline ticket to Canada seem to indicate that he intended to flee. Pardo was painfully burned when his incendiary device went wrong at the crime scene. Finding escape impossible, he chose to end his life, after setting an ineffectual booby trap in his vehicle.

This killing is not a “gun” problem, although that is undoubtedly the way that it will be perceived and portrayed by many on the Left. As long as our society fails to promote the idea of armed self-defense, we will be vulnerable to this kind of mass murder.

“Understand!” as our incoming “Ruler” is fond of saying. A gun is a tool that can be used for good or evil. Much of the endemic genocide in Africa is carried out with machetes and agricultural tools. The Heaven’s Gate Cult managed suicide without guns. The Jonestown murder/ suicides overwhelmingly occurred through the use of poisoned fruit drink. In gun-free Japan, a religious cult attacked the Tokyo subway system with nerve gas. Multitudes of Japanese kill themselves with charcoal braziers. (See my reference to Japanese suicides under the Category “Foreign Gun Laws.”)

Look for massive Liberal handwringing and calls for yet more gun control. The Liberal Mainstream Media will perseverate over this case. The obsessive publicity will provide a type of immortality for the killer, encouraging other disturbed individuals to “show” society that they can strike back against perceived victimhood and oppression.

“Understand!” Insanity really is repeating the same behavior and expecting a different result. For a change, let’s focus on preparing honest citizens to defend themselves.

What won’t they think of next? In addition to “Smart Gun” technology that has not been adequately tested, Liberals have come up with yet another way to inconvenience and harass law-abiding gun owners. Eighteen states are apparently considering “Ammunition Accountability” legislation.

According to a website promoting this idea, every single bullet made for certain caliber handguns and so-called “assault rifles” would have to be marked with a “unique identifier.” I suppose this marking could be an alpha-numeric serial number, Germanic runes, or Egyptian hieroglyphs. I would suspect serial numbers, teeny tiny, really small, itty bitty, itsy witsy, eenie weenie, microscopic serial numbers.

They could mark them by the box, or by the case, but wouldn’t it be so utterly cool, and oh so progressive, if an ammunition maker had to mark every single bullet with its very own, absolutely unique number. The retooling costs alone would be astronomical. Oh Joyous Day! Each round would cost a small fortune to manufacture! Think how many lives would be saved! It boggles the mind. No! It really does. It boggles the mind. You have to wonder about the people who come up with these things. (For those of you recently educated in public schools, this paragraph is an example of sarcasm.)

The marking number would be applied to the actual projectile base, making the process different from “microstamping,” which would put an identifier on the cartridge case from the firing pin of the weapon. What a unique idea! Police could trace a criminal shooter by matching a bullet at a crime scene with the stupendous, humongous, stupendous, gigantic, gargantuan database contained in “Big Brother’s” computer network.

Practical problems with this approach might be something like the following. Professional criminals would not use marked ammunition. There would be widespread non-compliance with the proposed requirement that all unmarked ammunition be destroyed or used within two years after the implementation of the law. This law would do nothing to hinder spree killers who often remain at the crime scene until they are stopped by police or armed citizens, or commit suicide.

This attack on gun ownership would raise the price of ammunition to prohibitive levels, create massive disrespect for police agencies, breed armies of informants, result in the deaths of officers and citizens, foster a huge black market in unmarked and fraudulently marked ammuniton, and cause many law-abiding ammunition makers to go out of business. Seems to me to be a really bad idea! Remember learning about how Prohibition corrupted law enforcement, promoted the rise of powerful criminal gangs, and degraded the respect of the general population for law and order. (If you were taking all self-esteem seminars, Marxist economics, and “New Games” classes in high school and college, take my word on this.)

Of course, few of the above consequences would apparently bother the Liberal backers of such propositions, since their goal seems to be the disarmament of the American People. Great Britain serves as a sad example of this kind of “nanny state” thinking. (See Category “Foreign Gun Laws.”) What are the Liberals planning that is so terrible that they fear free speech and armed resistance? (See my posts on the “Fairness Doctrine” for the free speech part of these schemes.)
