2nd Amendment Poetry-The Demon Gun
October 24, 2009 | Leave a Comment
A number of years ago, a religious leader in Denver, Colorado coined the phrase “Demon Guns.” I wrote a poem at the time about the irony of blaming an inanimate object for the violence perpetrated by a few human beings. At this time, as the jails and prisons spew forth their inmates in [...]

Last year, about 11,000 U.S. Citizens were incorrectly denied the right to buy a gun by various government agencies in charge of background checks. Colorado, just 1 of 50 states, had over 14% of the total number of wrongful denials, which were later reversed on appeal.

Recognizing Terrorists

To me, the most troubling aspect of the home-grown Colorado video, Recognizing the 8 signs of Terrorism, narrated by John Elway and Kim Christiansen, is what the video doesn’t say. It’s useful to alert citizens to suspicious behaviors regard high-value terrorist targets. People photographing or taking detailed notes regarding dams or power stations could raise [...]

Peter Boyles on 630 KHOW was on target yesterday in his radio commentary concerning Maurice Schwenkler. On June 18th, Governor Ritter renewed his efforts to further tax Colorado gun buyers who purchase from federally licensed firearms’ dealers and gun shows. The Colorado State Shooting Association has a good article here, including people to call. We can’t let the politicians who spent the state into insolvency balance the budget on the backs of American [...]

The crime was the stuff of nightmares. Actor Kelsy Grammer’s sister was brutally stabbed to death in Colorado Springs in 1975. Karen Elisa Grammer was 18 years old when she was murdered by three men. One of the killers, Freddie Glenn, who was also convicted of two other homicides, came up for parole this week. [...]

The state legislature has been holding hearings on the budget deficit, which may exceed $800 million next year. Please contact the Governor, and your State Senator and Representative to request that the state change its background check process from the current Colorado Bureau of Investigation check to the FBI National Instant Check System. These changes would save [...]

The Denver Post article, ”Book goes inside the minds of gun criminals,” by Monte Whaley, in the 06-26-09 issue of the paper, deals with 73 criminals who used firearms in the commission of one or more crimes. The upcoming book, Guns, Violence, and Criminal Behavior: The Offender’s Perspective, apparently offers interesting insights into criminal gun use among [...]
