A witty wise man once said, “I’m willing to go halfway on Second Amendment issues.  There are about 22,000 gun laws in this country at the federal, state, and local levels.  Which half of these laws would you like to repeal?”

Now comes the “No Label Movement” that is meeting Monday in New York City.  Their stated purpose is to represent the “Center” of political thought in America and to facilitate the efforts of politicians to “reach across” the political aisle.

How do you “reach across” to a President who characterizes conservatives as the “enemies” of Hispanic Americans?  How do you “reach across” to a President who negotiates a “compromise” with Republicans on tax rates and unemployment benefits and then describes those Republicans as “hostage takers?”

How do you trust an administration that has tried to destroy civilian reloading in this country by shredding military surplus cartridge cases?  How do we compromise with liberals who tried to ban knives that can be opened with one hand?  How do we compromise with an Obama Department of Defense that wants to register the privately owned firearms of military personnel, even though those guns are stored outside a military reservation?

How do you compromise with NYC Mayor Bloomberg, founder of Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), when he says on national television that federally-licensed gun dealers don’t have to do background checks when they sell a gun at a gun show?  (They are required by federal law to do the background checks.)

BTW, Mayor Bloomberg is a speaker at the Monday meeting of the “No Label Movement.”  MAIG supports S. 843, a “regulatory” bill that would destroy every gun show in the United States by forcing the promoter to register every patron to prove that he or she has been provided a copy of the onerous rules contained in the law.

How do you compromise with the liberal Democrat Political Machine in Chicago that requires range training before you can get a permit to keep a handgun in your home and then bans shooting ranges within the City of Chicago?  Oh yeah!  There’s a basis for a fair and equitable compromise!

There are much worse things than uncivil discourse and legislative gridlock.  Healthcare “Reform” and Finance “Reform” come to mind.  If the “individual mandate” to buy health insurance passes court muster, there is virtually nothing that the government can not compel you to do.  Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac accounted for over 50% of the bad mortgages that caused a financial meltdown a month before the 2008 Election.  (Remarkable Coincidence Alert!)  Why did Financial “Reform” not address Fan and Fred?  (Yet another Remarkable Coincidence!)

When we talk about “reaching across the aisle,” we must make very sure that “cooperation” does not become surrender on Second Amendment issues.  “Eternal vigilance” is especially necessary when people from the “Center” want us to “reach across the aisle.”
