Poor United Kingdom-gun bans and increasing gun crime

The United Kingdom has banned handguns. The British Olympic Pistol Team can not practice on British soil, because of their draconian gun laws. Yet, in spite of all their legal prohibitions, guns continue to be available to criminals and gun crime continues to rise. Read about areas in Manchester “…where the police don’t go.” This curious state of affairs might have something to do with the British Liberals’ interesting sense of priorities and the inherent flaws in the prohibitionist mentality.
British Burglars of shops or offices, auto thieves, and even assailants may be given “cautions” for first offenses. A “caution” is basically a traffic ticket. “You have been very naughty! Don’t do it again or Nanny will lock you in the closet until you promise to be good.”
In contrast, don’t get caught with an evil gun! You will probably do much more jail time in Britain for mere illegal possession of a firearm than you would do for an actual crime that damaged or injured another British subject.
Ah! But the possession of a gun in violation of the law is a serious matter. You might use the gun to defend yourself against a physically stronger or younger attacker. You might come to the aid of a woman or old man being beaten by a street gang. You might shoot a burglar that threatened you. We can’t have any of that. Britain is a civilized society. Self-defense is no reason to own a gun. Just give in to the felon who attacks you and hope that you survive. Better that you should be killed or maimed than you should employ violence to defend yourself against another subject of the Queen.
After all, the police might catch the perpetrator. They might even give him a caution. That will teach him a lesson, serve justice, and deter potential future criminals! No cowboy vigilante recklessness for the sophisticated British!
If this attitude of passive submission to criminal mayhem strikes you as absolutely over the hill, barking mad, totally insane, bonkers crazy, then be very afraid; because this is the attitude that Left-wing, Democrat gun banners hold as the “gold standard” for gun control. London is their “shining city on the hill.”
Dems ”don’t want to take anybody’s guns,” but watch the Lefties get all tingly when they talk about gun control in the Western European Socialist Parliamentary Democracies. Read David Kopel’s essay about Arnold Grossman’s book, One Nation Under Guns.
Look at proposed Democrat legislation. Read the sixteen or so anti-individual rights bills in the U.S. Congress, then tell me the Democrats are not dedicated to the socialization and disarmament of America. Presidential Candidate Obama favors handgun and semi-auto bans. The Dems are ideologically closer to UK Liberals than they are to Americans who support the Bill of Rights.
Come to think of it, the Brits are supposed to someday convert 90 hereditary positions in the House of Lords to elected seats. Sort of reminds you of the Democrat Super Delegates, who were created to keep the party on track in case the “common” citizens vote the wrong way in the caucuses and the primaries. (Darn pesky “common” citizens!)
Just like America’s Prohibition experience and American laws against responsible gun ownership and self-defense, British gun laws are abject failures. How many Brits didn’t register or turn in their guns? Criminals smuggle guns into England, criminals convert non-firing replicas into weapons, and criminals use knives to intimidate and kill their unarmed victims.
Oh! But don’t worry. The ever-vigilant Brits are on the case. They are in the process of banning sharp-pointed knives. (Check out the blade that the bobbies got during a recent amnesty period for evil knives! What! Would you use that thing in a bank robbery? Might attract attention on the street. “Sorry officer, I didn’t realize that I had it in my pocket.”) It should be really interesting when the English begin clamoring for a ban on rocks. I suppose they will simply pave the British Isles. While they’re at it, they might also want to pad the walls.
Vote Republican or lose your legal right to keep and bear arms.
