The National Rifle Association reports that the Department of the Interior has extended the comment period for allowing licensed concealed carry in national parks and wildlife refuges in accordance with the law of the state in which the park or refuge is located. (See my post, “60 Day Comment Period Opens on Guns in National Parks,” 05-01-08, on this site, Categories: “Federal Law/Policy, Second Amendment.” The new deadline for comments is August 8th, 2008. This extension is apparently due to pressure from Democrats in the Senate. The NRA believes this move to extend the comment period is a delaying tactic to try to stop the decision on CCW until after the next administration comes into office. If you wish to comment, or comment again, you can do so on line.

Be aware that your identifying information may be published with your comments. They don’t ask for much, but I would guess at least your E-mail or street address gets recorded. I wouldn’t worry about it, if you’ve visited this, or any other pro-individual rights web site, or ever gone to a gun show and parked in the lot, “somebody” probably knows you are interested in the gun issue.

Please pass this to fellow gun owners. There is no logical reason why national parks and wildlife refuges should continue to be “criminal-safe free-fire zones.” The Antis will no doubt try to rally their troops to comment against this policy change during the extension period.
