Denver Mayor may use Philly as model to fight gun crime

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper said earlier this week that the city would not stand for violence over the summer. I suppose he means during the Democrat Convention, when there will no doubt be a police officer on every corner. The Mayor also indicated that he would look to some other cities for possible gun regulations that might reduce crime in Denver. Aside from the problem of statewide preemption of local gun laws, which to some degree Denver defeated in its court battle over concealed carry and “assault” weapons, Hickenlooper said he might look to Philadelphia for inspiration.
As talk show host Peter Boyles pointed out in an interview with Stephen Halbrook, attorney and noted Second Amendment author, Philly has had, on occasion, about nine times as many murders as Denver. The Police Chief of Philly recently, in desperation, was recruiting 10,000 unarmed civilians to patrol the streets to try and reduce the horrific crime rate. If His Honor, the Mayor of Denver, is looking for a model, I would personally recommend that he pick another city.
If you live in Colorado, or ever plan to visit our capitol city, you might want to politely contact the Denver City Council and Colorado State Legislators, as appropriate, to provide His Honor and them with constructive feedback regarding his ideas. Again. Be polite. The Mayor is under a lot of pressure, with the Democrat Elite and hordes of angry protestors scheduled to swarm into downtown in August. I’m sure he is doing the best he can under very trying circumstances.
By the way, if given the choice, I would stay out of downtown during the convention. Considering the summer heat, possible passionate demonstrations, civil disobedience, and the prospect of tear gas, it does not sound like a fun place. In addition, I don’t think one-gun-a-month laws are going to help the endemic gang violence that plagues Denver in the same way that it damages most other inner cities. Gangsters, by definition, rarely obey the rules of society.
