Senator Vitter to introduce CCW reciprocity legislation
June 20, 2008 | Tagged Concealed Carry, GOA, Second Amendment, Senator Vitter |
According to an E-Mail Alert from Gun Owners of America, Senator David Vitter, Louisiana Republican, is going to introduce a bill before the end of June that will mandate states with concealed carry laws to recognize CCW permits from other states that also allow concealed carry. Vermont and Alaska, which do not require permits or licenses for concealed carry would be included in the bill, according to GOA.
The title of the prospective bill is the “Respecting States Rights and Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.” Illinois and Wisconsin do not permit concealed carry at all within their borders. They would not be affected by this legislation.
Expect a hostile reaction from most Democrats to this common sense proposal. Barack Obama, the presumptive Presidential Candidate of the party, has expressed his dislike for concealed carry. Some states with strict proficiency and training requirements may also object to having the Federal Government force them to recognize permits from other states that have more lenient permit regulations.
I would encourage you to contact your Senator in support of this legislation, even though it will be hard to pass with the Democrats in control of both houses of congress. Let your friends know about this pending bill and encourage them to work for, support, and vote for candidates who will protect their individual right to self-defense from crime and tyranny. There will be no “do-overs” in this election. If the Democrats win undisputed control of the state and federal governments, individual rights will suffer.
