Colorado Democrats have assembled and published their platform for the 2008 Campaign. If you love freedom and value your First and Second Amendment rights, you need to be worried.

Democrats “support reinstating equal time requirements (the fairness doctrine)…” to the “airwaves.” This means that if a TV or radio station expresses an opinion, they must give equal time to an opposing opinion. I believe this ploy is a direct attack on Fox News and conservative talk radio. If the Democrats succeed in this plot, only the overwhelmingly left leaning print media will be able to express political opinion without mandated rebuttals. Conservative TV and radio talk shows that can compete in the commercial marketplace and the marketplace of ideas will be forced to broadcast liberal propaganda from sources like the failed Air America. The fairness doctrine would kill political discourse over the “airwaves.” Of course, mainstream, left wing TV networks would still be able to present “objective” news with stories from “objective” reporters like Dan Rather, and quotations from “objective” persons like Sarah Brady, and Janet Reno.

On guns: the Democrats support the Brady law, the semi-automatic weapons ban (they don’t even bother to use the pejorative term “assault weapons”); “measures to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and children” (restrictive licensing and “safe storage” bills); and oppose making concealed weapons permits more readily available(whatever that means). It could mean a return to the old discretionary issue permit system, where you don’t get one unless you play cards with the sheriff, or in some jurisdictions, you can’t get one at all.

Democrats want want to “make available” to private citizens the “mechanism to conduct background checks.” Read this as they want to ban the private sale of firearms between private individuals, a prelude to gun registration and eventual confiscation. They also want to close the “gunshow loophole,” where private sales are banned on the premises of gun shows. Memo to the Dems: Amendment 22 already does that in Colorado. It’s awfully kind of them to want to export this restriction on the Second Amendment rights of Colorado Citizens to other states.

If the Democrats increase their control of the state and the nation, be very afraid regarding your natural right to protect yourself from crime and tyranny. They did not push a hard left gun control legislative agenda this year in Colorado, because of the election. If the Dems win big this fall, it will be “Katy bar the Door!”

If you do not campaign and vote for pro Second Amendment candidates from a major, usually Republican, party; you will lose your legal right to own a gun.

    The Canadian view.
Just look at the failure the universal gun registry has been in Canada if you want to see the logical conclusion of the Democratic platform. We have universal registration (incl. crossbows, some pellet guns), national personal licensing, storage requirements in our Criminal Code, national training (two courses - rifles & handguns), national handgun registration since 1934.
Now leftist politicians like the Mayor of Toronto and the Liberals (your Democrats) are calling for a national handgun ban. The Liberals are calling for a national ban on ALL semi-automatic firearms when they are again in power.
Take heed. The Liberals promised no firearms confiscations when they brought in the Firearms Act in 1995. So much for trusting that party!
Lastly, the chance of being shot with a legally registered handgun in Toronto is about .0001%! Facts don’t mean a damn in this fight.
