Concealed carry permit applications are up somewhat in Colorado. The Denver Post ran its second article last Sunday on this (extremely newsworthy?) phenomenon. This morning, talk show host Peter Boyles picked up the topic.

Am I paranoid? Is there a new conspiracy against CCW, or is this just another chapter in the never ending culture war between the nanny state oligarchs and the people who believe in individual freedom? The subhead on Page One of the Sunday Post story: “As permits soar, the surprisingly quiet battle over under-wraps weapons continues.” Why is there a “surprisingly quiet battle” going on? Should there be street demonstrations?

Something or the other has to fill the “news hole.” You will never see a newspaper write an article to the effect that “There was no news today!”

Logic and the relatively quiet CO Legislative Session indicate that state Democrats do not want gun control to become an issue in this year’s election. Why then does the left-leaning Denver Post devote so much paper and ink to this topic? FDR opined that “In politics, nothing happens by chance.” Is the Post article a natural commentary in the ongoing debate on the Second Amendment, or part of a larger campaign to roll back shall-issue concealed carry? One thing is certain. I do not have to be afraid of losing my paranoia.
